Why me?

2024-07-16 by Uncle Todd Leave a Comment

There are plenty of folks out there who know more about investing than me.  So why should you listen to me?

I’m no expert, but I’ve done OK for myself. And after the tenth person asked me for advice, I figured I need to find a way to get my advice out there in a more easily accessible way.

I’m no Warren Buffett. But I did start from the bottom and build myself up to be a millionaire before the age of 40. I did that through taking steps anybody can take, if you just have the knowledge. I had to gather that knowledge through trial and error, and reading, and listening – to a whole lot of people. I had to sift through a great deal of bad advice and bullsh*t in order to get to what I thought was essential and correct advice. I think I can help make that a little easier for the next dude.

On Experts – and how they’re overrated:
My friend is a nuclear engineer – and still thinks she needs to pay a professional to help her invest! It is my contention, that you don’t need anything but common sense and basic math skills to be successful at personal finance and investing. The key, is this. Just don’t be afraid of being average! Index funds are your friends. If they are good enough for a $1M bet for the richest dude (at the time the bet was made – and won) in the world, they are good enough for you!

Impostor Syndrome – and why it’s an illusion:
Get over it and contribute. The same reason people still do stand up comedy even after Dave Chappelle. Why? To add something to the conversation. Even if it’s just to co-sign, back up, or confirm what others have said. Even so, every new voice adds to the melody. Every new opinion can bring a different or unique flavor to the soup.

Giving Back – and why even your opinion matters:
Since I don’t have any kids of my own, I’ve taken it upon myself to help school the young buck who’s basically the son I never had. Hopefully, he’s not as hard-headed as I was. But even if he is, I’ll just have to deal with it. It takes a village, right?

No. I’m not an expert. But I’m willing to share what I’ve done, along with why and how. Use it. Don’t use it. It’s completely up to you. I’m not giving you advice. This is just what I do.
